- Vaccinations and Thorough Physical Exams
We strive to prevent illness whenever possible. Our exams are 15-20 minutes long and allow plenty of time for you to discuss any behavioural or medical concerns you may have.
- 24-Hour Emergency Service
Emergencies can occur at any time. We share on-call duties with other local veterinarians to ensure there is a veterinarian on-call 24 hours a day if you should need assistance. For some emergencies, we may refer you to Fairfield Animal Emergency in Kelowna. They are open and fully staffed 24 hours a day and can provide excellent service at any hour. Also, it comforting to know that pets there are being monitored throughout the night. We are very lucky to have a clinic that specializes in emergency care so close.
- Dental Care
Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth. We use a modern and safe ultrasonic scaler to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. The end result is pearly white and fresh breathe!
Pets are like our children - we feed, nurture and lavish attention on them. Our highly qualified kennel attendants do the same when you can't be there. We provide tender loving care (such as brushing and cuddling), and supervised outdoor playtime to keep them happy and active. The dogs go for walks 3-4 times a day and if its a nice day they can stay in outdoor play areas. The cats enjoy the view from their 5 level cat condos and if its a nice day they can bask in their sun with the floor to ceiling windows (except their private bathroom area of course). There is a play area for the cats as well that they get time in every day to play on the cat tree and with the many toys available to them. Please call ahead to make reservations as space in limited and we fill up quickly. You will need to bring your pets' food along with feeding instructions, details about when medications/ supplements are to be given if applicable and an emergency contact number (either where we can reach you or a contact person). Most people like to write all of the above and then it saves time when dropping off your pet and you can focus your time on teary good-byes.
- Behavoiral Medicine
Illness doesn't always have a physical cause. We try to determine the cause of such disorders as separation anxiety and obsessive behavior, and then develop a treatment regimen. We have also compiled articles on Dog Training for some of your more common behavioral issues like barking, digging, separation anxiety, etc.
- Euthanasia Services
Saying goodbye to a long-time friend is painful. We work with clients to ensure their pet's comfort and dignity. Services include communal and private cremation services. With communal cremation the ashes are spread over an orchard. With private cremation you get the ashes back either in a scatterboxor an urn. The scatterbox allows you to scatter as you wish or put in an urn of you own. We also have additional urn styles to choose from. The standard urn we provide is a burgandy stained wooden box with a brass nameplate with your pet's name and the following inscription "Forever Faithful, Forever at Peace". For $10 you can personalize the nameplate as you wish with your own inscription or pet's lifespan dates, etc. Please see our 'Pet Loss' section to prepare for euthanasia and to help you afterwards.
- Home Calls
For an additional fee home calls are available if booked in advance for home euthanasias only. All medical related problems should be brought to the clinic where we have the supplies and equipment to deal with the problem thoroughly.
- Internal Medicine
We cover all areas of internal medicine, including: Cardiology; Ophthalmology; Neurology; Dermatology; Gastroenterology; Orthopedic surgery; Oncology; Endocrinology; among others.
- Microchips/ Tattoos
Microchips and tattoos have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families. We offer the most widely used microchip products to increase the chances of a safe recovery. Tattoos must be done under anesthesia which makes spay or neuter time ideal.
- Nutrition Counseling
Some pets require special food, and all pets benefit from a balanced diet. Our trained staff is available to help you choose the right diet for your pet to keep him or her happy, healthy and active.
- Pain Management
Pets feel pain and discomfort under the same circumstances as people do. We know that recognizing and alleviating pain in animals is the essence of good patient care.
Radiology or X-rays help our veterinarians evaluate muscular-skeletal, heart and lungs, gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems.
We offer the most advanced surgical techniques and technology. All patients are carefully screened for safety, and anesthetics are specifically tailored to your pet. Surgical services and facilities include: fully trained technical staff to ensure the safest, most efficient procedures for your pet; heated surgery tables for greater comfort; advanced sterilization techniques; pulse and oxygen saturation monitors; intensive post-surgery care.
This non-invasive, state-of-the-art technology uses sound waves to painlessly examine specific internal organs, primarily the heart and abdominal organs. Pregnancy exams are also available.
- Birds, Reptiles, Rabbits and Small Mammals
Veterinary medicine for exotic pets is growing as the popularity of these animals increase. With better public education in health, nutritional and environmental management, all species have a greater chance for living longer and healthier lives. We employ staff veterinarians who possess experience in the care and treatments of exotics. However, for more extensive care and/or services like beak/wing/nail trims on larger birds we refer clients to Dr Rae in Westbank at 250-768-4688.
